The Premiership Rumour Mill

Jens Lehmann is ready to prolong his Arsenal career by accepting a 12-month contract at the Emirates Stadium.

The German goalkeeper was looking for a two-year deal but Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has made it clear he has no intention of breaking his own rules about offering more than 12-months to older players.

Staying put? Jens Lehmann

Lehmann has attracted offers from the continent but his desire is to remain in London and he will climb down from his demands of a multi-year deal.

"We will talk soon, in the next week or two," said Lehmann. "I am not frustrated, it is business. I have always said I would like to play at Arsenal because I think I am certainly aware the team has potential.

"I can decide to be a part next season. It is my decision and I have to make the decision. I am on a one-year contract right now, why should I really be disappointed about another year?

"It is not about one year. If I should go somewhere else, then I would go for two years, but here it is only one year. It is always my decision. I can stay, of course I can stay, but I have to talk with the club."

But Jeremie Aliadiere, a target for Middlesbrough, and Mathieu Flamini are on their way after being deemed surplus to requirements.

The Gunners want to free up funds to sign Marseille star Franck Ribery, who is also interesting Manchester United.

Manchester City are set to totally revamp their strikeforce and David Nugent is the main target.

Stuart Pearce will have around £10million to spend and has the new England international at the top of his shopping list.

Everton are also interested in the Preston forward while City are also interested in West Ham strikers Dean Ashton and Bobby Zamora and Tottenham attacker Mido.

Leeds United's David Healy, Wolfsburg's Mike Hanke and Toffees forward James Beattie are also being monitored.

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp will divert some of his summer transfer funds earmarked for a top striker to finding another central defender.

He is furious at the 4-2 defeat at Watford which may have derailed his team's attempts to bring European competition to Fratton Park for the first time in Pompey's history.

West Brom defender Curtis Davies will be out of Redknapp's price range but Tottenham defender Anthony Gardner and West Ham's Wales international Danny Gabbidon are high on his hit list.

Bolton have granted Leeds' wishes to keep Slovakian defender Lubomir Michalik until the end of the season.

He scored the Yorkshire club's winner against Plymouth on Saturday and Bolton boss Sam Allardyce said: "We do have the option to call him back if we require him but he is likely to play in all of Leeds' remaining matches this season."

But Ricardo Vaz Te will return to Wanderers today at the end of his loan spell with Hull City.

Nottingham Forest and Walsall are squaring up for a summer scrap to sign Birmingham's unsettled midfielder Neil Danns while West Brom have approached Reading about extending the loan of Sam Sodje and want to make a permanent move for the defender at the end of the campaign.

Rumour of the day: Liverpool remain interested in Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres.

No chance: Geremi doesn't fancy a move back to Middlesbrough if he leaves Chelsea in the summer.
