But the former Liverpool and Portsmouth star hasn't given up hope of winning a new deal with Villa after changing his mind about a summer exit from the Midlands club.
Berger fell out with new manager Martin O'Neill when he first arrived at Villa Park and was loaned to Stoke City after refusing to play for the reserves in November.
"There is a possibility of me going to America. I know there's interest but I can't say anything at the moment because nothing is finalised," Berger said.
"I've played against Beckham over the years but if I go to the States, I won't be going there because of him - I'll be going because I want to go there for my career.
"My deal is up in the summer and I just need to be fit and available every weekend for the manager and then we'll see what happens. There's no pressure. I don't want to quit the game - I want to carry on.
"For the first time in two years I haven't been injured now for quite a long time, so if I have the opportunity, I'd like to carry on.
"I will see what the manager has on the table for me at the end of the season. Then I'll sit down with the family and do what's best for them and make my decision."
Aston Villa defender Liam Ridgewell also wants to fight for his place at Villa Park and is not keen on crossing the city to join Birmingham on loan.
Middlesbrough Malcolm Christie is fighting to show boss Gareth Southgate he has a future in the game after battling back to fitness following a long list of injuries.
Crystal Palace manager Peter Taylor is ready to ship Danny Granville, Gabor Kiraly, Tommy Black, Dougie Freedman and Michael Hughes out of Selhurst Park in the summer while Burnley are interested in Sheffield United's out-of-favour defender David Sommeil and Nottingham Forest boss Colin Calderwood has failed with a £250,000 bid for Gillingham's Matt Jarvis.
Rumour of the day: Reading are tracking Deportivo La Coruna defender Juanma
No chance: Birmingham won't let Nicklas Bendtner join Lyon in the summer if the gain promotion to the Premiership.
