It was reported in France today by the respected sports daily L'Equipe that the Arsenal manager met Perez, Real director of sport Jorge Valdano and agent Marc Roger at Orly airport last Friday afternoon.

The group then headed off for talks at a luxury hotel in the city.

News of the meeting will fuel speculation Wenger could quit Highbury for the Spanish capital as Real's current coach Vicente del Bosque's contract runs out at the end of the season.

Wenger said: "I met lots of people on Friday. I am still contracted for two years at Arsenal and I will go to the end of this engagement. We will see what happens after that but I could even stay at Arsenal."

But, if Real do decide to go for Wenger he could join sooner than 2005 as it is also reported that the Frenchman has a clause in his Arsenal contract stipulating that he can leave the club at the end of each season.

L'Equipe reported that Wenger arrived at Orly after a trip to Switzerland, while Perez is said to have flew in by private jet. Valdano came on a regular airline flight.

Wenger added he feels "morally" tied to the club. But Arsenal's ability to challenge Manchester United's supremacy in the Premiership could be hampered by financial problems linked to their new ground at Ashburton Grove.
