The rising stars of Euro 2008

23 June 2008
Euro 2008 has provided a stage for some players to come on to the radar of
Europe's biggest clubs with some impressive performances for their countries.
Here at six players who have caught the eye.
ANDREI ARSHAVIN
Zenit St Petersburg coach Dick Advocaat knew before Euro 2008 he would struggle
to hold on to star playmaker Andrei Arshavin after his eye-catching performances
this season in their successful UEFA Cup campaign.
His loyalty to his local club could now be tested, with reports of interest from England and Spain.
The Premier League is apparently not his favoured destination, and he may favour a
move to Josep Guardiola's new-look Barcelona.

IVAN RAKITIC
Swiss-born Rakitic helped Croatia overcome the absence of star forward Eduardo as part of a Croatia side which impressed in the group phase, particularly in beating Germany.
Missed a penalty in the quarter-final shoot-out defeat to Turkey but there has been reported interest from Italy with Inter Milan said to be increasingly keen on the Schalke schemer.
ROMAN PAVLYUCHENKO
Few knew anything about Pavlyuchenko until his brace against England in qualification.
With Arshavin suspended for the first two group games, the pressure on Pavlyunchenko's shoulders increased considerably but he has refused to buckle under the pressure producing some solid displays with three goals to his name so far.
Currently playing for Spartak Moscow he is reported to have attracted interest from Celtic while Real Madrid are rumoured to be preparing an offer.

ARDA TURAN
Arda effectively saved Turkey from elimination after scoring the winning goal deep into injury-time against co-hosts Switzerland and scored am equally vital goal in the quarter-final against the Czech Republic, making it 2-1 and paving the way for Nihat Kahveci's heroics to force a 3-2 victory.
Having progressed through Galatasaray's youth ranks he has apparently attracted the interest of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.
DAVID VILLA
Villa has scored goals on a regular basis for club and country throughout his
career and, after years of speculation, he could be on his way out of Valencia
this summer.
Four goals at Euro 2008 so far have underlined his class in front of goal at the highest level and Chelsea, Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid are all thought to be interested in the striker.
David Villa
ORLANDO ENGELAAR
A surprise inclusion in the Dutch squad after an impressive season with Steve
McClaren's new club FC Twente.
Prior to the tournament he agreed personal terms
with German side Schalke and his value can only have gone up after some
excellent displays.
