The Screamer - it's the talk of football
07 August 2007
The 25-year-old winger said: "Rangers are struggling for money and as everyone knows, I'm a boyhood fan. The club were saying that not enough money had been paid for me. I said: 'I'll give you 10 per cent of the sale'. 'It was my decision - there was no pressure from anyone. The transfer was agreed but I don't want to see them hard up."

FULHAM have finally agreed a £3.5million deal to sign Watford's Algeria winger Hameur Bouazza, 22. Manager Lawrie Sanchez has renewed his interest in Tottenham striker Mido but may also be lining up a £2m offer for Burnley's 20-year-old Northern Ireland star Kyle Lafferty.
NICKY SHOREY insists he is not about to quit Reading despite turning down a new deal. The full-back still has two years left on his contract but West Ham want to sign him and could make a £5million move this week.
Shorey, 26, said: "I don't want to leave. I'm fully committed to Reading. It would be wrong to start talking about moving or going to a big club. I'm just keeping my options open."
BOLTON have rejected a £500,000 bid from West Bromwich for striker Ricardo Vaz Te. ManagerSammy Lee was willing to let him go earlier this summer but the Portugal Under 21 forward's pre-season form forced him to reconsider. Albion still want three more players, including Middlesbrough's James Morrison.
CRAIG GORDON was shown around the Stadium of Light yesterday as Sunderland looked to complete a £9million deal for the Hearts goalkeeper and head off competition from Aston Villa. Sportsmail revealed last month that Sunderland had tabled the British record bid for a keeper, but Villa had emerged as rivals for the 24-year-old the Scotland keeper. Sunderland manager Roy Keane is looking for a late surge in the transfer market with Tottenham striker Mido, Portsmouth's Andrew Cole and Manchester United defender Jonny Evans all in his sights as he looks to take his spending this summer beyond £30m.
Villa boss Martin O'Neill is wrestling with his conscience before splashing out. As well as Gordon, O'Neill has been linked with £10m-rated West Bromwich defender Curtis Davies. And with Mark Delaney on the verge of retiring due to a chronic knee injury, the boss also wants an experienced right-back. "Some things have gone beyond the pale in terms of transfer fees," said O'Neill. "I know that at some stage I will have to do something which is against the grain."
KANU has ended a summer of contract wrangling by signing a new one-year deal at Portsmouth.
The former Arsenal forward, 31, was Pompey's top scorer last season. Zambia striker Collins Mbesuma has joined Turkey's Bursapor on a free transfer without playing a game for the club, and Andrew Cole will also leave.
GARETH SOUTHGATE is facing a defensive crisis for the start of the Premier League campaign, following injuries to five centre backs.
Emanuel Pogatetz is out until Christmas after cartilage surgery, Robert Huth will not return to training until September, Jonathan Woodgate is three weeks away from his comeback, Chris Riggott is a doubt for Saturday's game with Blackburn and Matthew Bates is also out.
