The Screamer - it's the talk of football

Leroy Lita is out of Reading's Premier League opener against Manchester United on Sunday and may be sidelined for four weeks - after overstretching in bed. Lita joins the list of freak injury casualties, which includes keeper Dave Beasant, who dropped a jar of salad cream on his toe.

KEVIN NICHOLLS has described his time at Leeds as the worst 12 months of his life and branded manager Dennis Wise 'a bully'. Nicholls, 28, was stripped of the captaincy by Wise because he wanted to rejoin Luton eight months after signing for Leeds. Instead, the midfielder moved to Preston this summer. Wise, meanwhile, has signed Matt Heath, Curtis Weston and Leon Constantine.

SVEN-GORAN ERIKSSON has started his clear-out of players at Manchester City by making Danny Mills, Ousmane Dabo and Paul Dickov available for transfer. But the Swede is also ready to make his ninth signing by paying Palermo £3million for Australia midfielder Mark Bresciano.

SOUTHAMPTON have hit out at Derby after rejecting an 'unwelcome' £5million bid for Trinidad and Tobago striker Kenwyne Jones. They are considering a formal complaint to the FA over an alleged illegal approach for Jones, 22, and also believe Derby are undervaluing the player. A club statement read: 'A further unsolicited and unwelcome approach from Derby County for Kenwyne Jones has been rejected.'
