The Screamer - it's the talk of football

BILLY DAVIES will watch Derby's Premier League return against Portsmouth from the stands after being fined £1,750 for using abusive language towards a match official and a steward at Southend last season. He will communicate with assistant David Kelly using a microphone system tested against Espanyol last week.

DENNIS WISE yesterday criticised the chairmen of the Football League clubs who threw out Leeds United's appeal against a 15-point deduction for breaking insolvency rules. Wise called their decision unfair and laughable and added: "They have not only taken off my arms and legs, they've cut off my balls as well! Now it's 106 points to win the league, 92 points to get in the play-offs and 70 points to stay in the division. Lovely. Thanks very much. You don't like Ken Bates and you don't particularly like me, but at the end of the day you've got us." Wise, however, has signed Norwich midfielder Andy Hughes.

TOTTENHAM winger Aaron Lennon is a doubt for England's vital Euro 2008 qualifiers against Israel and Russia next month as he is recovering from knee surgery. With David Beckham also struggling, England boss Steve McClaren may turn to Shaun Wright-Phillips, Jermaine Pennant or play Steven Gerrard out wide.

GABRIEL HEINZE has been advised by his lawyers to stay away from Manchester United's Premier League opener against Reading at Old Trafford on Sunday as the dispute over his future goes on. The champions have refused to grant him a move to rivals Liverpool and the matter has been referred to the Premier League. Now it has emerged that the injured Argentina defender is considering staying away from the club on Sunday after being advised that his presence could spark trouble. Heinze's compatriot Carlos Tevez is also in limbo as the Premier League have yet to decide when he can make his Manchester United debut.

BLACKBURN skipper Ryan Nelsen says playing in America will toughen up David Beckham not make him softer. Nelsen spent four years with DC United before joining Blackburn and said: "David will come back for England games physically in a totally better shape than he has ever done before because it is so tough in MLS."
