City manager Sven Goran Eriksson is determined to bolster his options up front but moves for Luis Fabiano, Diego Milito, Afonso Alves, Fred and Lukas Podolski have failed to produce anything.
Determined: But signing Brazilian targets is proving tough for Sven Goran Eriksson
Eriksson has inquired about Jo and Love but CSKA will want around £14million and £8m for them respectively if they can be persuaded to part with the players.
Valencia failed in a £9.6m bid for the 20-year-old Jo.
CSKA president Yevgeny Giner said: "As a footballer, he is pleased to know about the interest from leading European clubs and, in the future, he would be happy to play in Italy or Spain. But now he needs to think about CSKA."
Eriksson, who is ready to loan out Georgios Samaras to Rangers and has Valeri Bojinov and Nery Castillo injured, is also keen to land a midfielder but admits at least one striker is his priority.
Riise won't fall for Newcastle
John Arne Riise will not be joining the Kevin Keegan revolution at Newcastle after the Liverpool defender's agent insisted the player wants to stay at Anfield.
Riise has been linked with Newcastle and Aston Villa during the January transfer window but his agent, Jan Kvalheim, said: "There has been a lot of speculation, but Riise is not leaving Anfield. He has still one-and-a-half years left on his contract."
Liverpool midfielder Momo Sissoko is expected to finalise his £9million switch to Juventus today after a medical yesterday.
Dzeko could be Edin to Arsenal
Arsenal are watching Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko and may make a transfer window move.
The Bosnia forward, 21, joined Wolfsburg from FK Teplice last summer and has been recommended by Arsenal coach Boro Primorac, who said: "We have been following Edin Dzeko. He is a type of striker who can be a success in the Premier League.
"It is not certain if we'll capture him, but his displays have been better day by day. If you want to buy such a player, you need plenty of money."
Burnley won't budge on Lafferty fee
Burnley are holding out for £4million for Kyle Lafferty after snubbing a bid of £2.5m plus Derek Riordan from Celtic.
The Glasgow club tried to sign the 20-year-old Northern Ireland striker a year ago while Riordan was the subject of a £400,000 bid from Burnley only last week.
Rovers hot on Chile skipper
Blackburn are to hold talks with Chile captain Claudio Maldonado over a £1million move.
Midfielder Maldonado, 28, has 39 caps for his country and has recently won the title in Brazil with Santos.
The Brazilian side have given Maldonado permission to join up with Rovers.
Manager Mark Hughes, who is also interested in Macedonian Velice Sumulikoski from Turkish club Bursaspor, is desperate to sign a new midfielder before the transfer window closes.
He turned to Maldonado after seeing a move for on-loan Rangers man Amdy Faye collapse.
Maldonado has an impressive reputation in South America as a holding midfielder and ball-winner.
Blacks Cats hope to get lucky with Cahill
Sunderland held talks with Aston Villa defender Gary Cahill last night in a three-way battle for the 22-year-old, who will meet Birmingham this morning.
Bolton had earlier agreed a £4.5m fee with Villa and are still favourites to sign him, but Birmingham manager Alex McLeish insists his side are still in the hunt.
He said: "Cahill is a player we admire and we would like to take him here."
Christian Wilhelmsson is set to leave Bolton for Deportivo La Coruna.
The Swedish winger is currently on loan from Nantes, but has made only four starts since his arrival last summer.
