Shevchenko: I'm missing out at Chelsea

Andriy Shevchenko has admitted he misses life in Italy — casting fresh doubt over his future at Chelsea.

The £31million striker, who is currently sidelined with a back injury, confessed: 'I miss my friends and certain things about the country — the food for example. I miss the atmosphere and high tension of Italian games.

'Italian football is about finishing and logic, like chess, and the English game is based on speed and instinct.'

King move to Fulham threatened after failed medical

Fulham's £5million move for Marlon King was in danger of collapse last night after the Watford striker failed a medical.

King missed six months of Watford's return to the top flight last season after suffering a serious knee injury in his third appearance.

Fulham could now attempt to reduce the transfer fee or try to land King on a pay-asyou- play basis.

Roy Hodgson has tied up the £2.5m capture of FC Copenhagen defender Brede Hangeland and held talks yesterday with Werder Bremen's £2m midfielder Leon Andreasen.

He is keen on a loan deal for Lazio defender Guglielmo Stendardo, who is also wanted by Birmingham City, while Kansas City Wizards striker Eddie Johnson will join next week if granted a work permit.

Wright set to leave Sunderland

Sunderland defender Stephen Wright is on his way to Hull on loan for six months.

City boss Phil Brown wants Wright, 27, as cover after selling Damien Delaney to Queens Park Rangers for £600,000. The defender recently finished a loan spell at Stoke.

Sunderland boss Roy Keane said: 'Hull have been in touch and there have been talks.'

Blackburn poised to sign Bulgarian striker

Blackburn are hoping to secure a loan deal for Bulgarian Valeri Domovchiyski.

The 21-year-old striker from Levski Sofia has been training with Rovers this month and would be available for around £1.5m. But Blackburn need funds to sign other players — including Jason Koumas from Wigan for around £3.5m.

Blackburn may also struggle to get a work permit on a loan deal.

Castillo blow for Sven

Manchester City striker Nery Castillo is out for six weeks after fracturing a shoulder. Manager Sven Goran Eriksson, who aims to sign a new striker and a midfielder, has told Rolando Bianchi he can leave.

Valencia could be the next Pennant, claims Bruce

Steve Bruce believes Wigan have unearthed the new Jermaine Pennant in Ecuador's Antonio Valencia.

The 22-year-old winger last night turned his loan from Villarreal into a permanent £1.5million switch.

Bruce said: 'He's as good a wide player as I have dealt with and I have had people like Pennant in my teams in the past. He will be a big player for Wigan.'

Wigan also completed a £500,000 move for Rennes left-back Erik Edman and he will play against Everton tomorrow.

Coyle: I had to let Gray go

Burnley manager Owen Coyle insisted he had to let Andy Gray talk to Charlton — after the striker said he would not play at Coventry today.

Burnley agreed a deal worth up to £2million with Charlton and have sealed a £1m deal for Ipswich striker Alan Lee.

But Coyle said: 'On Friday morning, Andy asked if I was considering him playing at Coventry which I was. Andy told me that he felt he was not in the right frame of mind and could not do himself or the team justice. I told Andy to go home and that he wouldn't be training with the lads.'
