Pericard spent five weeks in Exeter Prison after lying about who was driving his car when he was caught speeding.
He said: 'I just kept my head down and didn't create any trouble. I made no bad eye contact that could have caused problems for me. The only trouble happened one night as they came round to check on us. I found out they had found the guy next door had hanged himself. I walked past the open door to his cell and saw the chair still next to the bed. I've never been so close to death before and it really shocked me.'
Ireland recalled
Disgraced Republic of Ireland midfielder Stephen Ireland has been restored to the squad for the home Euro 2008 qualifiers against Germany and Cyprus.
Ireland flew home after the draw in Slovakia last month after claiming two of his grandmothers had died. The FAI paid £50,000 to fly Ireland back but it later transpired his girlfriend had had a miscarriage.
Linesman axed
Peter Kirkup, the linesman who denied Jose Mourinho a win in his last Premiership game with Chelsea, has been axed from this weekend's matches. Kirkup mistakenly flagged when Salomon Kalou 'scored' in the goalless draw with Blackburn. He also flagged when onside Marcus Bent netted for Wigan, beaten 1-0 by Liverpool on Saturday.
