Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins insists he wants to stay at the club and prove himself to boss Sam Allardyce.
Allardyce has been reluctant to use the Nigeria forward as Michael Owen's strike partner. But with Mark Viduka injured, Martins scored his fifth goal of the season when he and Owen started against Tottenham on Monday.
Martins said: "If Sam Allardyce is here for five years I'll be here for five years."
SCOTS' EURO BOOST The Scottish Premier League has postponed Rangers' and Celtic's games on the weekend before Scotland's Euro 2008 qualifier against Italy. Scotland boss Alex McLeish asked for both clubs to have a free weekend before the game on November 17, and so Celtic v Falkirk on November 10 and Rangers' clash with St Mirren on November 11 have been postponed.
A who's who of football will honour the 150th anniversary of the oldest club in the world on Wednesday night. Sheffield FC's milestone dinner will be attended by, among others, FIFA president Sepp Blatter, Sir Bobby Charlton, and FA chairman Geoff Thompson. Blatter will also meet Prime Minister Gordon Brown to discuss any potential bid by England to host the 2018 World Cup.
