Hreidarsson heads Pompey's wishlist

Harry Redknapp's astonishing recruitment drive will continue with the signing of Charlton defender Hermann Hreidarsson - and he will follow that up with a move for Lyon midfielder Alou Diarra.

Redknapp will unveil former Manchester City defender Sylvain Distin today on a free transfer and has completed a £7million deal for Udinese's Sulley Muntari, while he is also confident of landing Mark Viduka from Middlesbrough.

Recruitment drive: Pompey boss Harry Redknapp is busy in the summer transfer market

Hreidarsson, 32, capped 55 times by Iceland, is convinced Redknapp intends to mould a side fit to challenge for Europe next season.

The signing of £ 6mrated France defensive midfielder Diarra, 25, would be a real coup. At 6ft 3in he is an imposing presence and has 12 caps.

However, he has had a torrid time under Gerard Houllier, who signed him for Liverpool in 2002 but did not play him this season. Portsmouth are also watching Rennes' Nigerian striker John Utaka.

Duff blow

Damien Duff is out for six months with a broken foot and will miss the rest of the Republic of Ireland's Euro 2008 qualifying campaign.

Ireland boss Steve Staunton has written off the Newcastle winger's chances in the remaining five games, including the key home tie against Germany.

• Birmingham City are closing in on West Ham's unsettled left back Paul Konchesky. Steve Bruce has offered £2million.

• Liverpool keeper Scott Carson, 21, is set for talks with Rafa Benitez over his Anfield future.

After a season on loan with Charlton, Carson is unwilling to be farmed out again.

Birmingham and Fulham are interested.

• Bolton, meanwhile, are interested in Fulham skipper Michael Brown.
