Curtis Davies has been ruled out for up to seven months after rupturing his Achilles tendon against Arsenal — but his planned £10million move from West Bromwich Albion to Aston Villa is not in jeopardy.
Long lay-off: Curtis Davies
Davies has spent the season on loan at Villa with a view to a permanent transfer this summer.
Both clubs still consider the move to effectively be a done deal.
It is understood that Villa did not even need to consult West Bromwich before sending Davies to hospital for surgery.
But it could be the New Year before Davies is playing regular first team football again, which would rule him out of England's early World Cup qualifiers.
Davies said: "The surgeon said the operation went very well. There's soreness there now and I have to rest up and let everything settle."
Shrews lose Peters
Shrewsbury have parted company with manager Gary Peters. He said: "The negativity towards me might be affecting the team and whatever we can do to get results, we need to do."
Peters' assistant John McMahon is in temporary charge. Chester are ready to ask Ken McKenna — currently in charge of Welsh side The New Saints (TNS) — to be their manager.
Just the ticket for Rovers fans
Blackburn Rovers have launched a price freeze on season tickets at Ewood Park with adults able to watch them next year for £249 in the Fraser Eagle Stand. Rovers will offer deals on tickets bought before the end of April.
Chairman John Williams said: "We have to be realistic. I'd like to think that it's a very competitive price when you consider the entertainment value and our position in the world's most difficult league."
The launch followed striker Benni McCarthy saying he is ready to see out the rest of his career at Blackburn.
McCarthy, currently in contract negotiations at Ewood Park, said: "I can definitely see myself playing under Mark Hughes until I finish my career. He's young and full of energy."
