Gregg closes in on deal to buy Saints
Former Everton director Paul Gregg is in talks to take over Southampton.
Gregg left Goodison Park after a fall-out with chairman Bill Kenwright three years ago and last summer failed in a bid to buy a controlling stake in Sheffield Wednesday.
Talks are at an advanced stage and Southampton put their search for a new manager on hold last week.
Gregg is understood to be leading the bid and will have his own thoughts on a replacement for George Burley, who left to manage Scotland last month.
John Gorman remains in charge but the club have narrowed down a shortlist that includes Micky Adams, Stoke manager Tony Pulis and Kevin Blackwell. But Pulis is unwilling to quit Stoke while they are pushing for promotion.

Liverpool have been linked with an £8million move for Nigeria winger Osaze Peter Odemwingie. The 26-year-old, who has a Russian mother and Nigerian father, was watched by Anfield scouts at the Africa Cup of Nations. Odemwingie plays for Lokomotiv Moscow and had a successful spell at Lille.
