The Screamer... It's the talk of football

Michael Owen has admitted he wil have to wait a week to make his comeback.

The Newcastle striker, 27, had set Sunday's clash with Chelsea for his return after undergoing the second of two bouts of knee surgery last year. But manager Glenn Roeder says Owen is only 50-50' to play after picking up a minor groin strain in training.

Not quite ready: Michael Owen

Speaking at Newmarket races, Owen said: "It has been frustrating, but the rehab has gone perfectly well. I played in a behindclosed- doors game and everything went well. I've got a bit of a tight groin at the minute. I am looking at the game after Chelsea, at Reading on Monday week, to make my return."

Reading may appeal Downes ban

Reading are considering an appeal after an FA disciplinary hearing handed assistant boss Wally Downes a one-game touchline ban as well as fining him £2,000 and the club £5,000 for incidents during the clash with Sheffield United on January 20. United received a £10,000 fine.

Chelsea's final ticket plea fails

The FA last night dismissed Chelsea's claims that they should receive more tickets for next month's FA Cup Final against Manchester United.

Chelsea, who could not even sell out their allocation for last Sunday's semi-final against Blackburn, and United have both been given 25,000 tickets for the first final at the new 90,000-seat Wembley Stadium.

Stamford Bridge officials yesterday put out a statement expressing their disappointment' at the allocation, but the FA believe that they have been given enough to satisfy Chelsea's 27,267 season-ticket holders.

Steve Bennett will referee the final on May 19.
