But the 53-year-old oligarch, who is close to Russian president Vladimir Putin, said: 'I consider this team to be the best in the world. But be reassured, the taxes from any Arsenal profit will in any case go to Russia.'

Sven-Goran Eriksson will take charge of a World XI to play an England Legends XI at Manchester City on December 2.

Gianfranco Zola and Alan Shearer have been named as captains.

Terry Venables, who will manage the England side, and Peter Beardsley are among 10 people to be inducted into the National Football Museum's hall of fame.

Birmingham chairman David Gold has demanded an apology from Aston Villa director general Charles Krulak after a row over ticket prices.

Gold was outraged after Krulak posted a message on a Villa fans' forum, saying: 'I'm not sure what Mr Gold is after other than publicity. When you get down in the mud and wrestle with a pig, the pig loves it — and you get muddy. I think I will just let him continue to talk.'

Krulak, Villa owner Randy Lerner's righthand man, claims the pig in question refers to the situation and not Gold himself.

However, Gold said: 'To use my name in an analogy about pigs and mud I find distasteful and insulting. Whether it is Americanese or not, he should not have written that kind of thing.'

Port Vale boss Martin Foyle has left the club by mutual consent after defeat by Luton left them with one win from seven games.

Foyle has been at the League One club for 16 years.
