The Screamer...It's the talk of football

Chelsea have confirmed Henk ten Cate as assistant coach at Stamford Bridge. Ten Cate has reportedly sealed a three-year deal worth about £1.8million a season after Chelsea agreed a compensation deal with his former club Ajax this week.

Ten Cate will work under manager Avram Grant and alongside Steve Clarke, although Chelsea are still searching for a goalkeeping and fitness coach, together with a scout.

Hartson: Linked to Norwich

A Chelsea statement said: "Chelsea can confirm that Henk ten Cate has joined as assistant first-team coach and we would like to welcome him."

The 52-year-old Dutchman came to prominence during a successful spell under Frank Rijkaard at Barcelona.

CANARIES SWOOP FOR HARTSON

Managerless Norwich are trying to sign West Brom misfit John Hartson, 32, on loan to revive their season.

Boss Peter Grant left the Championship strugglers by mutual consent on Tuesday.

BRUCE'S SHOWDOWN TALKS WITH NEW OWNER

Carson Yeung will agree to meet Birmingham boss Steve Bruce to discuss concerns that the manager may not be offered a new contract.

Yeung, who hopes to complete his £50million takeover before the end of the year, is due in Britain next week and Bruce has requested talks.

Yeung's adviser Sammy Yu said: "For the moment, we will stay silent on what has been said over the past days."

RAFA EYES BILBAO'S AMOREBIETA

Liverpool are weighing up a move for Athletic Bilbao defender Fernando Amorebieta.

The 22-year-old is under contract with the Basque club until 2011 after signing a new deal before the start of the season.

But that has not put off Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, whose spies have been impressed with Amorebieta on recent missions.

Benitez is keen to strengthen his central defensive resources.

ISAKSSON'S CITY FUTURE ON THE LINE

Andreas Isaksson will be playing for his Manchester City future as well as Euro 2008 qualifying points when he faces Liechtenstein and Northern Ireland over the next few days.

The Sweden goalkeeper faces an uncertain future after a frustrating start to the season, with reports that City boss Sven Goran Eriksson is ready to offload him.

But Tord Grip, Eriksson's right-hand man, said: "It is absolutely not true that we are looking to sell Andreas.

"If Andreas shows his best form in Sweden's next two games, it is very possible he will get a chance soon."

REPUBLIC NAMED AS THIRD SEEDS FOR WORLD CUP

The Republic of Ireland are set to be among the third seeds when the draw for the 2010 World Cup is made in Durban next month.

The format for the European qualifiers will be eight groups of six teams and one group of five.

The nine group winners will qualify directly, with the best eight runners playing off for the remaining four places.

Steve Staunton's team could meet Northern Ireland, England or Scotland in the 2010 qualifiers. Wales will be in Pot 5 at the draw.
