There were tears after the crash but it will spur me on

The travel brochures are out and I'm planning a girls' holiday in the next week or so. It's safe to say I don't care where we go so long as the weather is hot and there's a beach.

The plan is to switch off - it'll do me the world of good. I've already been doing some switching off at home with my family in the last couple of weeks.

Last Friday, I was invited to the British Olympic Association Gold Ball on behalf of one of my sponsors, BP. I don't get the chance to go to events like this when racing so it was a nice surprise to receive the invite, plus it gave me a great excuse to buy a fancy new dress.

I was sat on a table with the hurdler Will Sharman, who is very nice and interesting, and while there were loads of other sporting luminaries present, I didn't actually get to see that many.

Actually, as strange as it sounds, my goal for the night was to meet Kriss Akabusi. My brother, sister and I all loved him when we were younger. I spotted him early in the evening but sadly he left before I could have my photo taken with him!
On Tuesday, I took part in a photo shoot with a few other Olympians including pentathlete Freyja Prentice and heptathlete Louise Hazel.

It was another chance to get all glammed up in lovely evening gowns with the addition of angel wings. It sounds a bit odd but it's for a Christmas feature and the shots looked brilliant . . . even if I say so myself!

As for my season, it didn't quite finish as I wanted it to. At last month's Road Race World Championships in Copenhagen, I felt the best I have all season and thought it would be my time.

There has been a misunderstanding about what happened to me in the race. I avoided the big crash but got caught with about 450metres to go by one of the Norwegians. I don't know why but of all the 120 girls in the peloton, it's always her I end up crashing with.

Anyway, I was on the left-hand side of the road and she was on the right but she fell and her bike skidded into me, knocking me off my stride. I was crying as I crossed the line in seventh.

It's difficult to say I would have won but I felt in the form to do that and I've put it down to a learning experience. I'll definitely be a better rider because of it.

After the race I flew straight to the National Track Championships in Manchester where I won the scratch and points races. Despite those good rides, I found it hard to move on from the worlds but I'm determined to tap into this experience to enable me to focus on the next goal.

I've now got a difficult decision to make over what to do at the Olympics, as I have to choose between track and road - I plan to make my mind up before the end of the week.

I think I know what I'm going to do and it's ultimately my decision but I'll take the advice of the British Cycling coaches and be glad once it has been made!
