Title is a dream for now, insists cautious Gunners boss Wenger

Arsene Wenger has insisted any thoughts of the title are for 'dreamers' despite Arsenal's best start to a Premier League season.

Arsenal have picked up 36 points from 14 games, eclipsing even the start they made to their 'unbeaten' campaign.

But while admitting repeating that feat is a possibility for his exceptional young side, Wenger is clearly keen to keep feet firmly on the ground.

Playing it cool: Wenger is coy about his side's title chances

Asked whether it is difficult to avoid thoughts of lifting the Premier League trophy, Wenger replied: "Maybe for dreamers they think about the title, but we are realists and we know that, at 14 games, there is still a long way to go.

"The championship is fantastic because it is down to consistency. We do, of course, think we are capable and we will grab that chance if we can get the best out of our team."

On the subject of the prospect of another unbeaten season, Wenger added: "I think about the prospect always. What is important to me is that the team pushes, digs deep to improve their performances.

"In life and in football I believe you focus step by step and then see at the end of the season how far you have come."

Arsenal can move a step forward to achieving the double goal of another title and a second unbeaten campaign by moving six points clear at the top with victory over struggling Newcastle tonight, although they are without midfield regulars Cesc Fabregas, Alexander Hleb and Mathieu Flamini.

Arsenal will demand a seven-figure fee from Birmingham in the January transfer window for central defender Johan Djourou, on top of the existing £1m loan fee, if they allow the Swiss international to move permanently to St Andrews.
