Torres denies rift with Spain coach Aragones with Sweden clash looming

Spain striker Fernando Torres has rubbished talk of a rift between himself and coach Luis Aragones.

The Liverpool frontman was reportedly unhappy at being substituted after only 54 minutes of Spain's 4-1 victory over Russia in their opening game in Group D.

But Torres insisted ahead of the clash with Sweden on Saturday he remains on good terms with Aragones.

"There is no problem," he told Spanish daily Marca.

"I have spoken with the coach. I have not had problems with any coach."

Fellow frontman Sergio Garcia confirmed team spirits were high within the Spanish camp.

"We are all very united," he told AS.

"It does not matter who plays and who does not play, what is important is that we are all united.

"As for Torres, these things pass and there is no annoyance. Everyone likes to play and that is not a problem."

Victory over the Swedes - who started their Euro 2008 campaign with a 2-0 win over Greece - would all but guarantee Spain a place in the last eight.

And Sergio Garcia sees no need for the coach to change the side which performed so well against Russia - even though that would again mean there is no place in the side for him.

He added: "My team-mates did well before Russia and as things went well in that game, then why change?

"It is important the team win against Sweden and take three points to qualify for the final stages of the tournament."

While Spain's attacking flair was on full view against Russia, Sweden struggled to break down a stubborn Greece side, and had to rely on a piece of individual brilliance from Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the opening goal.

And defender Olof Mellberg knows Lars Lagerback's side will face a tougher proposition in their second outing against one of the championship favourites.

"Spain are playing very well as a team," he said. "It seems that they are in good form and they played very well against Russia.

"I do not know if Spain are the big favourites (for the title). There are three or four. But Spain are one of them."

Niclas Alexandersson, who is set to miss Saturday's game with a calf injury, added: "Spain have one of the better teams in the world and of course one of the better teams in this tournament.

"Therefore I expect that on Saturday we will have a difficult game."

But Mellberg, who will join Juventus after Euro 2008, insists Spain's impressive start to the tournament does not mean Sweden will play for a point.

"We need at least five points to qualify. Normally a draw is good against Spain, but with a victory we would be already qualified," said Mellberg.

"But Spain will also think this because the last game in the group is always difficult. There is always a lot of pressure."

Utility man Mikael Nilsson added: "I believe if we play as we know we can, we can beat Spain.

"Of course Spain are the favourites and on paper have the best team. But everything is possible so we will wait to see what happens."
