are believed to be lining up a second attempt to sign Euro 2008 top scorer David Villa.
Despite having their first approach for the Spanish striker rejected out of hand by his club Valencia, Spurs are still determined to pull off what would be the transfer coup of the summer.
Hot-shot: Euro 2008 top scorer David Villa is the subject of keen interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Manager Juande Ramos has been using Spurs' training camp in Spain as a base from which to pursue targets in his homeland, and is hoping to lure Villa to White Hart Lane as a replacement for Dimitar Berbatov, who is expected to leave soon.
Villa has long been linked with a move away from the Mestalla Stadion after Valencia ran into financial difficulties, although the Spanish club were hoping to offload others in order to hold on to their star man.
However, with no deals forthcoming, it appears they may have to cash in on the 26-year-old, and Spurs are ready to pounce with an improved bid.
Ramos is also still hoping to sign the likes of Andrei Arshavin, David Bentley and Roman Pavlyuchenko, as he prepares to build an entirely new forward line at White Hart Lane following the likely departures of Berbatov and Robbie Keane.
His transfer pot has been boosted by the sales of Paul Robinson, Younes Kaboul and Teemo Tainio, with Pascal Chimbonda and Steed Malbranque also reported to be on their way.
