Tottenham confident Poyet would snub Newcastle approach

remain confident assistant boss Gus Poyet would want to stay at White
Hart Lane if he is targeted by Newcastle to take over from Kevin Keegan.
Poyet, along with David Moyes and Didier Deschamps, has been suggested as an
early front-runner for the manager's job at St James' Park after Keegan walked out citing differences with the board.
Keegan's relationship with executive director Dennis Wise is believed to have been the root cause.

Poyet worked with Wise at Swindon and Leeds before being headhunted to assist
Juande Ramos, and the 40-year-old has impressed Spurs officials in his role as a
link between dressing room and head coach.
He was even reported to be in the frame to replace Carlos Queiros this summer
as Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant at Manchester United, a job that eventually went to Mike Phelan.
At the time, Poyet said: "When you are in England and you are lucky enough to be with one of the big teams you are always going to get speculation.
'I want to stay at Spurs, I want to stay with this manager, this group of players and this club because I'm very happy."
Spurs have had no indication Poyet's situation is any different to when he was linked with the Old Trafford post. They may also draw encouragement from the fact Newcastle's structure has been heavily criticised by the League Managers'
Association since Keegan's departure.
Meanwhile, Spurs have bounced back from their dreadful start to the season and are looking to build on their point at Chelsea when they return from the international break.
'We have to try and get one of those top four spots, because we want to play
Champions League football,' midfielder Giovani dos Santos told FourFourTwo magazine.
'I joined a club that is working for this and I know we have the qualities to challenge the top four. I missed out on winning a trophy last season so I'd really like to win something this season with my new team."
