Leap into the big time: David Bentley
David Bentley has signed the most lucrative deal in Tottenham’s history, joining on a six-year contract.
The winger will have cost Spurs £32million in transfer fees and wages by
2014 if he fulfills his potential with them.
The club confirmed to the Stock Exchange this morning they have paid
Blackburn £15m with a further £2m depending on appearances.
It is also believed Bentley, 23, will earn £50,000-a-week.
The England midfielder will be unveiled today as Juande Ramos’s latest signing and could make his debut at the Feyenoord Jubileum Tournament in
Rotterdam this weekend.
His deal, which will eventually be worth more than the £16.5m paid to Charlton for Darren Bent, could be eclipsed by any
transfer for Russian pair Andrei Arshavin and Roman Pavlyuchenko.
In a statement to the Stock Exchange, Spurs said: 'Tottenham Hotspur plc is pleased to announce that agreement has been reached with Blackburn Rovers for the transfer of the registration of the England international midfielder, David Bentley, age 23 years, to Tottenham Hotspur FC for a total consideration of £15million and up to an additional £2million payable upon future performances.

'The player's contract is for a period of up to six years.'
Rivals Arsenal, Bentley's former club, stand to receive a percentage of the deal as part of the terms of his transfer to Ewood Park in 2006 after an initial loan spell.
The winger made just nine appearances under Arsene Wenger but will join Sol Campbell as the only high-profile players to feature for Arsenal and Spurs in the modern era.
