Tottenham get the green light for new ground

Tottenham have been given the go-ahead to build a new £30million training ground in Enfield.

Enfield Council's planning committee has voted in favour of the scheme and the club expect official confirmation in the next two or three weeks.

The move from their current base in Chigwell will end years of frustration for the club, who want a new modern home for their first team and academy.

Their initial application for the site at Bull's Cross was rejected last year, but the purchase of Whitewebbs Sports Club allowed them to restructure the plans and ensure the facility had less of an impact on greenbelt land.

Spurs hope the new training ground will be completed by 2010.

A statement on the official club website said: "The Club is delighted to announce that, subject to conditions, Enfield Council's Planning Committee has resolved to approve our application for a Football Training Centre at Bulls Cross Enfield."
