Tottenham line up swoop for Italy keeper to challenge Robinson

Tottenham are reportedly lining up a move for Livorno goalkeeper Marco Amelia.

Amelia was a target for Manchester City and Palermo just before the transfer window closed as his club priced him out of a move but both clubs are expected to go back in when the window re-opens.

Tottenham are also being strongly linked with a move for the Italian international as they look to provide more competition to current number one Paul Robinson.

Amelia failed to complete a move to Palermo, with the Sicilians unable to agree a price with Livorno, and Amelia is said to be disturbed.

Suggestions that Livorno president Aldo Spinelli deliberately rasied the asking price at the last minute to push Palermo away have left the goalkeeper furious and upset.

Livorno, in turn, have responded by leaving him out for Sunday's game against Palermo.

A Palermo in a statement said: "We have decided not to include the player in the squad as he is dazed by the transfer stories that too often splashed him across the front pages."
