Tottenham's Keane appeal will fail but Dowd has lessons to learn

Robbie Keane's hopes of having a three-match ban overturned look doomed after his Tottenham manager Juande Ramos admitted Sunday's foul on Birmingham's Fabrice Muamba was worthy of a yellow card.

The FA disciplinary commission will hear the appeal today but are unable to allow red cards to be downgraded to a yellow because of rules set down by FIFA.

Tottenham, who lost the match 3-2, would have to prove that referee Phil Dowd made a clear error and that the challenge was not worthy of a booking.

In addition, Dowd has denied the accusation that he consulted fourth official Uriah Rennie before dismissing Keane, insisting he was simply informing his colleague of his decision.
