Kolo Toure is expected to feature in Arsenal’s opening Premier League game despite catching malaria during the summer break.
The Arsenal defender was sent to hospital for tests in Vienna when he returned to pre-season training last week but Arsene Wenger revealed last night that he has made a swift recovery.
Recovering: Kolo Toure
'Most of the players have that (malaria) in their blood in Africa,” explained the Arsenal manager.
'He had a little resurgence of it because he caught it in Africa. They recover quickly from that. After two days he was okay.'
Wenger has ruled the Ivory Coast international out of tomorrow night’s game at Stuttgart and the Emirates Cup this weekend but is confident he will be fit for the Premier League curtain-raiser against West Brom.
'Kolo has started to practice again so that’s quite good news for us,' said Wenger.
'It will take two weeks for him to play but he will be ready for the first Premier League game.'
Toure, along with 10 other senior players, did not feature as Arsenal thrashed a Burgenland X1 10-2 in the Austrian town of Ritzing last night.
Nicklas Bendtner plundered four goals before half time, Carlos Vela scored a hat-trick and Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott added a goal apiece.
