Trescothick blasting his way back

England batsman Marcus Trescothick celebrated his comeback for Somerset on Sunday with a stunning 256 against Devon in a friendly at Taunton.
Trescothick, for so long the country's premier one-day batsman, was left out of the World Cup squad after pulling out of the Ashes series with a recurrence of the stress-related illness that had previously forced his withdrawal from the winter tour of India.
Trescothick opened as Somerset took to the crease first in a 50-over pre-season warm-up.
The Keynsham-born batsman made light of his recent troubles to smash 25 boundaries and an astounding 19 maximums off the Devon attack and faced just 117 deliveries as he scored at over two runs a ball.
Trescothick's problems became apparent when he asked not to be considered for England's ICC Champions Trophy campaign last year and his place at the top of the ODI order was taken by Ed Joyce when the World Cup got under way.
The 31-year-old has spent recent weeks battling to be fit for the new season after a double hernia operation but now looks in good shape to press his claims for a potential England recall in the summer.
Trescothick's efforts, in a winning total of 502 for four, come at a time when Duncan Fletcher's top three are struggling in the Caribbean - with captain Michael Vaughan scoring just 12 in his last four innings' and Joyce dropped for Andrew Strauss after an unimpressive run.
Strauss, who lost his place after an equally lean time, could not mark his return to the side with anything better than a seven against Australia and if 'Banger' makes a good start to the first-class season an international return may not be out of the question.
