Turner's Earners - Friday: Infallible set to reign over her Coronation rivals

Cheveley Park Stud appear to have a stranglehold on this afternoon's Group One Coronation Stakes as they own the first two in the market with INFALLIBLE (Royal Ascot, 3.45) and Spacious. The Newmarket breeding operation have enjoyed a wonderful season and their outstanding strike-rate could be enhanced today with John Gosden-trained Infallible fancied to come out on top in the battle with her old adversary.
Classy filly: Coronation Stakes hope Infallible
The duo last met in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket in May when Spacious overcame the lack of an outing to chase home winner Natagora who appeared favoured by the way the race panned out. Infallible travelled throughout that event like the best horse, but her rider Jimmy Fortune was forced to race on the outside of the pack from his draw and, as a consequence, she was always racing too freely. In the circumstances Infallible performed with great credit to finish fourth as she was unable to employ the scintillating change of gear which she displayed so markedly when winning the Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket first time out this season. The ability to quicken is a precious commodity at Group One level and connections believe that she has thrived since that outing and is working better than ever. If that is the case then she has outstanding claims at a track which looks made for her style of racing and it was encouraging that her stable took the Ribblesdale Stakes with fellow filly Michita yesterday. Hopefully Jimmy Fortune may be able to settle her through the formative stages of today's race, conserving her potent turn of foot, before unleashing her with a decisive challenge at the furlong marker. This intriguing renewal is far from a two-horse war though with Musidora Stakes winner and Guineas sixth Lush Lashes another to consider on her return to a mile. She patently failed to stay the 12 furlongs of the Oaks at Epsom last time and is sure to prove a threat to all if arriving in the same shape which saw her hack up at York two starts ago. The meeting opens with the Albany Stakes and I'll be disappointed if Jim Bolger's filly CUIS GHAIRE (Royal Ascot, nb, 2.30) is beaten. She scorched to an impressive win in a Group Three at Naas last time and that victory confirmed that the daughter of Galileo loves a stiff track and fast ground and possesses the class to land a race of today's nature. Bolger's juveniles have already made an impact at the meeting with Intense Focus running a blinder in the Coventry Stakes behind Art Connoisseur. The nap vote goes to CHAMPIONSHIP POINT (Royal Ascot, nap, 4.20) who bids to repeat his win in last year's Wolferton Handicap. I will probably live to regret deserting Bushman who is improving at a rapid rate of knots and hacked up in a strong time at Sandown last time, but he is priced accordingly and I think the double-figure quotes on offer for Championship Point are an insult for a horse who has already proved his credentials in this Listed handicap. Stablemate Halicarnassus reputedly worked all over the selection in the first-time visor at Newbury last Saturday, but he is a horse who prefers smaller fields and I am hoping that Darryll Holland can add to his four wins on Championship Point today. Today's lay is August Gale (Ayr, 7.15).ROBIN GOODFELLOW'S DOUBLE: Cuis Ghaire (Royal Ascot, 2.30) and Championship Point (Royal Ascot, nap, 4.20)
GIMCRACK'S DOUBLE: Infallible (Royal Ascot, 3.45) and Schopenhauer (Newmarket, nap, 8.40)
CAPTAIN HEATH'S NAP: All The Aces (Royal Ascot, 3.05)
FORMCAST SPECIAL BET: Speedy Senorita (Musselburgh, 5.40)
THE WIZARD: Enroller (Royal Ascot, 4.55)
WORK WHISPER: Bushman (Royal Ascot, 4.20)BURNT FINGERS: April Pride (Royal Ascot, 2.30)
FORMCAST SPECIAL BET (Nigel Taylor): Speedy Senorita (Musselburgh, 5.40). Speedy Senorita won her second handicap of the season at Brighton 12 days ago, showing further improvement on her victoy at Ayr last month. This Musselburgh race is a very moderate contest, and Speedy Senorita should have little difficulty giving weight to her rivals today.
