Consistency is not a word synonymous with APPALACHIAN TRAIL (Haydock, nb, 3.15) but he rates a strong bet if he can reproduce his latest effort in today's J.W.Lees Stakes.
The son of Indian Ridge scorched to an impressive victory in a Listed race over course and distance three weeks ago, clocking a career-best speed figure in the process.
Blinkered approach: Appalachian Trail
Quite where he found that level of form from is open to question, but he is clearly an animal that can turn it on when in the mood and a sympathetic ride from Fergal Lynch could have been the catalyst to an improved showing.
Appalachian Trail moves back into Group company this afternoon and, although the form of his win took a hit when runner-up Diamond Tycoon was beaten at York yesterday, Beckermet in fifth went on to finish third in the Group Two Duke Of York Stakes next time out.
Sandown Mile hero Major Cadeaux is sure to prove a huge danger, especially as he is dropping in class and is partnered by the mercurial Ryan Moore.
However, Appalachian Trail could be better value and Linda Perratt's seven-year-old is taken to continue his trainer's bright start to the season.
The day's best bet could be COLLOQUIAL (Haydock, nap, 4.20) who bids to complete backto- back wins in the staying handicap later on the card.

Hayley Turner was third on her only ride aboard the Classic Cliche gelding last term so is familiar with the seven-year-old and the ground should be just about perfect for the selection who was also second in this race two years ago.
PATKAI (Haydock, 4.55) went into more notebooks than Roy Keane when last seen at Chester and he appears to have a great chance of sending punters home happy in the finale.
The switch to a galloping track should be more to the colt's liking after he appeared unbalanced around Chester's idiosyncratic turns.
Today's lay vote goes to all-weather specialist Boz on his return to turf without the usual assistance of Jamie Spencer (Doncaster, 2.00).
ROBIN GOODFELLOW'S DOUBLE: Appalachian Trail (Haydock, 3.15) and Colloquial (Haydock, nap, 4.20)
GIMCRACK'S DOUBLE: Green Park (York, nap, 3.55) and Patkai (Haydock, 4.55)
