Aqlaam, who was backed down from 11-1 to 13-2, landed a gamble in yesterday’s Group Three Jersey Stakes.
The three-year-old colt, trained by in-form William Haggas and ridden by Richard Hills, could now be stepped up another furlong to a mile but he will not run in Goodwood’s Group One Sussex Stakes on July 30.
Newmarket trainer Mick Quinlan landed his first winner at the royal meeting when 25-1 shot Langs Lash squeezed home in yesterday’s Group Two Queen Mary Stakes.
She narrowly denied rookie trainer Simon Callaghan a winner in his first season by beating his Shyrl by a neck with Irish raider Connie Mac a further head back in third.
