United boss Ferguson: Let's win for Busby Babes

Sir Alex Feguson has admitted he is feeling the pressure of trying to win a trophy to mark the 50th anniversary of the Munich disaster.

The Manchester United manager appeared on the verge of tears as he spoke of the legacy of the Busby Babes and the need to pay tribute to their memory by winning something.

Ferguson admitted: "It makes me nervous, but it may be a good thing that the fear of failure is upon us.

"Munich may be an incentive — though it may be the biggest handicap — but the players do not fear challenges."

United's players recently saw a DVD on the Munich disaster and listened to Sir Bobby Charlton, who survived the crash, talk about his experiences.

Club captain Gary Neville added: "It's impossible not to learn and for the players it was fantastic — especially listening to Sir Bobby."

Ferguson would love to mark the anniversary with his 10th Premier League title but accepts Chelsea have made it a three-horse race again and believes 90 points might be needed.

United, scintillating in a 2-0 midweek victory over Portsmouth, face a tough match at Tottenham, with Sir Alex warning they may not be able to afford another defeat.

He said: "You've got to expect Chelsea to be there at the end. They got back into a reasonable pattern very quickly after Jose Mourinho went and Avram Grant is doing well.

"I have to look at the dangers posed by Arsenal and Chelsea and ask whether they will go the rest of the season undefeated. They've both done that in the past, so we're taking nothing for granted."

Ferguson has told striker Wayne Rooney, who has scored only three goals since October, to be more selfish and take a breather now and then.

Sir Alex said: "Wayne worked too hard on Wednesday. He has to look after his energy a bit more and he'll be banging them in again soon."
