United boss Ferguson: Spain win 'a triumph for the game'

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has hailed Spain as worthy winners of Euro 2008 after their victory over Germany in Vienna.

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres struck the only goal of last night's final as Spain ended their 44-year wait for a major trophy.

Spain, led by veteran coach Luis Aragones, were arguably the most stylish team on show in Austria and Switzerland and had chances to beat Germany by a more comfortable margin than 1-0.

Ferguson said: 'When a team plays that type of football it's a triumph for the game.

'I was pleased for them, it was a really good performance last night.

'Spain were a far, far better team (than Germany) and I think they have been the best team."
