Meanwhile, the Premiership leaders have upset supporters by increasing ticket prices by as much as 14 per cent for next season — ignoring the trend for reductions at other clubs.
A range of measures have been introduced to cut the price of concessionary tickets, but the most expensive season tickets will now cost £836, up 12 per cent.
Chairman of the Independent Manchester United Supporters' Association, Mark Longden, said last night: "Clearly, this flies in the face of the thinking all over the country, from Bolton to Arsenal. They have all frozen prices and in some cases reduced them. There is absolutely no justification for putting prices up."
