United star Giggs desperate not to fall too far behind the early season leaders

United midfielder Ryan Giggs is wary of falling behind the early pacesetters in the Barclays Premier League
A little more than a week into their Barclays Premier League title defence and already face a must-win game.
After Monday's visit to Portsmouth, United play Zenit St Petersburg in the final of the UEFA Super Cup in Monaco on Friday.
This means that their next league game is not until September 13, away at Liverpool.
United’s Ryan Giggs said: ‘We want to go into that two-week break with a win to make sure a massive points gap doesn’t open between ourselves and others.’
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson insists that he is not perturbed by a league schedule disrupted by the trip to the south of France and a week in Japan for the World Club Championship in December.
Ferguson said: ‘We play all the top teams away in the first part of the season.
'If we do all right in those games, maybe in the second half of the season we’ll motor on.’
