"We have had Manucho here for a three-week trial and have been impressed enough to offer him a three-year contract," United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said.

If Manucho's visa is approved, he will join United in January after the African Cup of Nations. He'll move from Angola club Petro Luanda.

The 24-year-old player's full name is Mateus Alberto Contreiras Goncalves, but he is known as Manucho.

He has scored twice in 10 times for Angola, but was not in the squad for last year's World Cup.

"He is a tall, agile and quick forward," Ferguson said.
