Vaughan compares South African bowlers to great West Indies attack

England captain Michael Vaughan has compared South Africa's bowlers to the lauded West Indies attack of the 1980s.

England's four-match Test campaign against South Africa starts at Lord's on Thursday.

South African trio Dale Steyn, Makhaya Ntini and Morne Morkel are the men that remind Vaughan of West Indies greats Michael Holding, Joel Garner and Malcolm Marshall.

Vaughan said: 'We are going to need big scores and big hundreds and to get them against that kind of attack will be very rewarding.

'Pace bowling, like mystery spin, is always fascinating to watch and I guess this is a bit of a throwback to the 80s when the West Indies were around.'

Each of the Proteas' pacemen offers different attributes. Steyn is the quickest and the in-form wicket taker. Ntini angles the ball in at right-handers' bodies and Morkel extracts extra bounce at 90mph.
