Vaughan delivers on promise of a century

Michael Vaughan returned to Test cricket for the first time in 18 months in the best possible style on Friday, hitting a century in front of his home Headingley crowd as England dominated the first day of the second Test against the West Indies.

Vaughan, who had to face claims he was given preferential treatment by the selectors in walking straight back into the side after a broken finger, was under pressure to deliver but responded with 103 in England's 366 for five.

Kevin Pietersen, who remains unbeaten on 130, lifted Vaughan high into the air in celebration of his captain's ton.

Vaughan said: "I visualised my hundred in the car on the way to the ground. Sometimes you can sense when you're going to get one. Maybe it was destiny."
