Vaughan plans to build on first win

Nicky Vaughan is hoping the first winner of his career will prove a catalyst to a successful second half of the season.
The trainer, who runs the Cheshire stable owned by England striker Michael Owen, saddled Maryolini to win the aptlynamed Field of Dreams Maiden Auction Stakes at Wolverhampton on Monday evening and then had a 33-1 third with Don Jose at Beverley yesterday.

Strike force: (from left) Owen, Parker and Vaughan
Vaughan, 46, who was previously travelling head lad to Barry Hills and to John Gosden, started his new career in April at Manor House stables near Malpas, where Owen has installed him as a salaried trainer.
Vaughan, used to dealing with Group horses, was happy enough to settle for a modest race at Wolverhampton with just over £3,000 to the winning owners.
He had sent out a dozen runners before breaking his duck but Maryolini is the only one of his 18 two-year-olds to have run.
Vaughan said: "The older horses are not up to much so it was nice that the first two-year-old has shown something.
"I want to emphasise that I am not a private trainer for Michael — he has just five or six horses here.
"I am a public trainer and have lots of other owners for the 27 horses that are in at the moment. I can take a maximum of 36.
"Some of the footballers have shares in horses. Scott Parker, Nicky Butt and Craig Moore have several shares.
"Michael has some nice two-year-olds including Holoko Heights (by Pivotal), who will be a backend horse, and Dashing Daniel (by Zamindar) plus three-year-old Prairie Tiger (debut in next four weeks).
"Maryolini is a good benchmark for these others. She is honest, consistent and always tries her hardest. We didn't get going until April so everything was a bit slow to begin with but we'll be having a steady flow of runners now."
