Vidic out of Arsenal showdown

Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic will miss the crunch Premier League clash against Arsenal after being ruled out for up for to three weeks.

The Serbia centre-half suffered a knee injury when he fell awkwardly during Tuesday's Champions League victory over Roma, sparking fears his season could be over.

Following scans, though, United announced today he would miss Sunday's trip to Middlesbrough, the second leg against Roma next Wednesday, the Gunners clash four days later and possibly the trip to Blackburn on 19 April.

They expect him to be back for a possible Champions League semi-final and the Premier League clash against Chelsea on 26 April.

Vidic's injury was the one sour note on a night of glory for United in Rome, when they won 2-0.

The opening goal came from Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been described as even better than AC Milan's World Player of the Year, Brazilian midfielder Kaka.

Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster said: "He has already overtaken Kaka. Right now Cristiano is the best in the world."
