Missing out: Gabriel Agbonlahor won't be fit to face Newcastle
A scan has revealed a problem which means he is struggling to recover in time to play against Kevin Keegan's side.
Villa manager Martin O'Neill said: "We've done a scan and it shows something, which is disappointing. Gabby has missed out with England and he's a doubt for Saturday.
"It's a setback that he might miss a game for us because he has been absolutely fantastic this season and showed no sign of what people call the 'second season syndrome'.
"His form meant was on the threshold of things with his country. That time will return for him, I'm sure. It's just a setback for him for now."
Agbonlahor has been an ever present for Villa this season and is their leading scorer with seven goals.
There was better news for O'Neill regarding central defender Curtis Davies who picked up a knee injury at Craven Cottage and he is expected to return to training on Thursday.
Davies said: "It is a slight knock and I'm getting treatment. I'm hoping to be back training again on Thursday. It's a niggle rather than an injury.
"I'm hoping to play against Newcastle but, as always, that's down to the gaffer."
