Walcott's back in Capello's England squad and Beckham's close to a recall too

Theo Walcott is poised for a dramatic return to the England fold for next Wednesday's friendly against France as David Beckham's hopes of earning his 100th cap took another upturn.

England manager Fabio Capello will hold a meeting with his coaching staff at Soho Square on Wednesday afternoon to rubber stamp his 30-man squad and Walcott will be on that list, which will be trimmed to 23 to travel to France on Tuesday.

Beckham's international future will also be resolved and he is inching towards a recall for the game at the Stade de France.

Capello fears he would be heavily criticised if he 'gifts' the LA Galaxy midfielder his 100th cap against the U.S.A., at Wembley in May, a game that would be a corporate dream for the FA and Wembley.

Beckham's chances of a return improved after Capello's righthand man Franco Baldini visited Dallas last weekend when he heard Galaxy coach Ruud Gullit speak highly of Beckham.

Baldini also saw Arsenal's 2-0 win over European Cup holders AC Milan two weeks ago and was so taken with Walcott's display as a substitute that he recommended the 19-year-old for a senior recall.

Walcott, omitted from Stuart Pearce's Under 21 squad to face Poland next week, went to World Cup 2006 under Sven Goran Eriksson but did not play.

Capello, however, wants a team with pace in attack and Walcott fits the bill.

The Italian will watch Spurs against Chelsea tonight (Wednesday) but may send goalkeeping coach Franco Tancredi to Manchester United for the visit of Bolton to look at Ben Foster, who impressed at Derby on Saturday.

Manchester City's Joe Hart had been expected to be promoted from the Under 21s but the Eastlands keeper was named in Pearce's squad.

There will also be a recall to the initial England 30 for John Terry, who missed the new coach's first game in charge against Switzerland through injury.

Chelsea chief Avram Grant has urged Capello to pick Terry ahead of Steven Gerrard as his full-time captain.

He said: "England needs John Terry more than John Terry needs England. Gerrard is one of my favourite players, but I see JT as a captain. If JT had been playing against Croatia, England would be going to Euro 2008."
