Wide boy: Winger Williams has been voted the star performer
Williams received 55% of the public vote on www.rbs6nations.com to comfortably beat second-placed Sergio Parisse, the Italian number eight, who mustered 14%.
Williams' Welsh counterpart Ryan Jones, who captained Warren Gatland's team to the Grand Slam and Six Nations title, was third with 11.8%.
A panel of former internationals including Jason Leonard, Keith Wood and Ieuan Evans chose the shortlist on which the public voted.
"I am just thrilled. Being named the RBS Player of the Championship is a fantastic end to what has already been a phenomenal week," Williams said.
"This year's RBS 6 Nations has been a special championship for me and for all the boys for lots of reasons, beyond our wildest dreams really, and this is just the icing on the cake.
"It is an even greater honour to know that it came from a combination of former players' nominations and fans' votes, whose support throughout this year's championship has been sensational."
