Wanted: One bright young Brit who'll give O'Brien a run for his money...

O'Brien: Dominant

Aidan O'Brien has already won an astonishing 17 Group races this summer and has the world record for the most number of Group One wins for a season in his sights.

Two of the three major bookmakers rate him as short as 4-1 to still be the dominant force in 15 years' time but which British young gun do they think has the ammunition to be champion trainer in the near future?

Mark Jeffreys gets them to name those they believe have the ability to reach the summit.

Simon Clare (Coral)

Balding: Favourite

Balding: Favourite

1.  Andrew Balding. Age: 36, Highclere. (10-1)

He’s the favourite. It would only take one proper patron for him to mix it with the best.

2. Richard Hannon Jnr. Age: 32, Marlborough. (14-1)

He will inherit his father’s strong yard and has a sporting chance of winning a championship.

3. Charlie Hills. Age: 29, Lambourn. (15-1)

He is being groomed to take over his father’s terrific yard and will have plenty of bullets to fire.

4. Tom Dascombe. Age: 35, Lambourn. (20-1)

He has proved a shrewd trainer who has excelled with relatively cheap horses. It all
hinges on him landing a big job.

5. Ralph Beckett. Age: 37, Whitsbury. (20-1)

Won the Oaks with Look Here and on an upward curve.

Kate Miller (William Hill)

Hannon Jnr: Pedigree

Hannon Jnr: Pedigree

1. Richard Hannon Jnr. (16-1)

Great pedigree! Yard always handy at the top — just a superstar needed for further lift.

2. Tom Dascombe. (20-1)

A banker to be offered one of the top jobs, talented and savvy.

3. Ralph Beckett. (20-1)

He has limited arsenal but still produced a Classic winner this year. Classy guy going places.

4. Andrew Balding. (33-1)

Beautifully bred, fantastic facilities at Highclere and experience at his fingertips.

5. David Simcock. Age: 36, Newmarket. (50-1)

Progressive trainer with ability to improve horses

David Williams (Ladbrokes)

1. Andrew Balding.

Canny ability to pick up owners from different spheres. We have plenty of respect for him.

2. Richard Hannon Jnr.

Once out of his father’s shadow he will make a name for himself.

3. Ed Vaughan. Age: 34. Newmarket.

Hasn’t had a good year so far but his training pedigree suggests he will go far.

4. Tom Dascombe.

His two Group wins this season shows he has what it takes to take it to another level.

5. Simon Callaghan. Age: 25, Newmarket.

He is already attracting horses from Michael Tabor so that is a big feather in his cap.
