Wasps bid to keep veteran Dallaglio going

Wasps are to hold talks with Lawrence Dallaglio aimed at persuading their captain to extend his marathon club career for another season.

His England future now behind him, the 35-year-old warhorse proved anything but a spent force in lifting Wasps to a 25-10 home win over Bath decorated by two more Paul Sackey tries.

Back for more: Lawrence Dallaglio is still going at Wasps

Having announced his international retirement once before, in September 2004, only to change his mind the following year, Dallaglio has been reluctant to do so again even if England have already made him surplus to requirements for the Six Nations.

Head coach Brian Ashton's naming of a 32-man squad next week gives Dallaglio the option of preempting his inevitable exclusion by formally hanging up his Test boots before they are hung up for him.

Wasps' concern will be to encourage their most famous player to keep going. "I will be talking to Lawrence about his future plans," said chief executive Tony Copsey. "He's currently playing some of the best rugby he's played for a long time and we hope he will carry on playing for us next season."

Harlequins No 8 Nick Easter is an England worry after damaging a knee in his club's hard-fought 10-7 win at Worcester.

Easter was expected to be named in Ashton's squad but now faces a nervous wait until the extent of his injury is known. Quins director of rugby Dean Richards said: "Nick has twisted his knee. We'll see how he is and we'll make sure he has a scan in the next couple of days."

Leicester finally claimed their first maximum-point win of the season thanks to Julian White breaking one of the longest ducks in the Premiership.

The England veteran's late try, his first in the competition since joining the Tigers more than four years ago, enabled the champions to claim all five points from their 25-17 home win over London Irish.

The Exiles hope to have Mike Catt back for the final two Heineken Cup pool matches, starting at home to Newport Dragons on Saturday week. Irish director of rugby Brian Smith said:

"Our three midfield players played their hearts out like the rest of the team, but Mike brings a lot of class and experience."

Gloucester consolidated their position at the top, dismissing Bristol 27-0 at Kingsholm despite losing Mike Tindall to a calf injury.
