Watch the birdie - Verchenova brings glamour to the women's British Open

Maria Verchenova brought a touch of glamour to sunny Sunningdale as she practised on the range for the women’s British Open, which starts today.

The 24-year-old is the first Russian to play in the event. World No 1 Lorena Ochoa, of Mexico, who holds the title, says she aims to be No 1 for the next ‘five to six years’ before quitting at the top.

Ex-No 1 Annika Sorenstam will be playing her last major before retiring.
