We want to finish group winners, Portugal coach Scolari warns Swiss

Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has warned Switzerland his team intend to finish top of Group A despite having already guaranteed a last-eight berth at Euro 2008.

Second-half goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Ricardo Quaresma - the latter in
stoppage time - clinched a 3-1 victory for the Portuguese against the Czech Republic
last night after Libor Sionko had cancelled out Deco's early opener.

The win ensured a quarter-final spot for Scolari's team but the Brazilian tactician - who was confirmed as Chelsea manager for next season after the match - wants the winning trend to continue.

"We have got to give our all during these Euros," he said. "We must be realistic.

"We are playing very good teams and small details make a difference.

"With six points, we have already got to the knockout stage.

"We came here with the aim of winning every match we can win. We want to reach the knockout stage in a solid position."

Tournament co-hosts Switzerland were dumped out of Euro 2008 when they went
down 2-1 to Turkey in last night's late game, and will be looking to get their
first pool points on the board when they take on Portugal in Basle on Sunday.

"Winning this match means we can allow the players to rest (today)," added
Scolari.

"I am very pleased with this victory. It means we are where we want to be after two matches. For Portugal, it's a historic achievement.

"It has not been happening over the last few years so it is excellent."

The 2002 World Cup-winning coach of Brazil clearly believes he will be leaving
his replacement in a healthy position when he takes up the post of Avram Grant's
successor at Stamford Bridge on July 1.

"This team has been restructured and is very capable, very qualified - this is a good omen for the future," he said.

"This team has faced a lot of difficulties over the last few years.

"It's good to see our players playing as a unit.

"They went through a hard time over the last two years - now they are fit and playing really well for the Portuguese national team."

Czech striker Milan Baros took comfort from the fact his side still have their destiny in their own hands despite the defeat.

Victory over Turkey on Sunday would see Karel Bruckner's team advance to the last eight along with Portugal.

Baros, the Golden Boot winner at Euro 2004, said: "We played very well.

"With more luck we could have been 2-1 up, we had more chances but in the end we lost so now we have to take all the positive things and try to prepare for the next game.

"Whenever you lose, nobody is jumping around, everyone is disappointed but everything is still in our hands. We have to prepare for the next game and make
sure we go through."
