Rangers are aiming for a hat-trick of further signings this week after last night completing the permanent transfer of forgotten centre-back Andy Webster from Wigan.

The Ibrox outfit are edging closer to a deal to bring former Hearts striker Andrius Velicka back to the SPL from Viking Stavanger - with the Lithuanian yesterday admitting he would warmly welcome the move after just three months in Norway.

No agreement is yet in place after further contact between the clubs, but a fee in the region of £1million is expected to be enough to seal a switch for the 29-year-old.

Rangers also hope to secure the signatures of Kenny Miller and Steven Davis over the coming days as they step up their moves to strengthen Walter Smith's squad before pre-season training resumes in less than a fortnight.

But it is Webster whose future has been resolved first, with the 26-year-old sealing a three-year contract at Ibrox after spending the last 18 months there on loan.

Injury problems meant he made just one appearance for Smith's side during that time and is again recuperating after undergoing a hernia operation last week.

Webster became the first player to invoke Article 17 of FIFA's transfer regulations to secure his release from Hearts back in 2006 and was initially ordered to pay the club £650,000 in compensation after joining Wigan.

However, an appeal cut that amount to £150,000, with Rangers thought to have effectively picked up that tab to reimburse the JJB Stadium outfit and complete the deal.

Velicka, meanwhile, yesterday openly confessed a switch to Ibrox would be an 'amazing' career move.

"If it can happen, it will be amazing," said Velicka. "To play for Rangers would be unbelievable. I think they are the best club in Scotland.

"I would be proud to get the chance to play for them."

Miller would add another option to a new-look strikeforce, with his representatives due to hold talks with Rangers this week after a £1.9m fee was struck with Derby.

The Ibrox club will also meet Fulham this week in a bid to fix up £3m-rated midfielder Davis , who is also on the radar of West Ham and Middlesbrough.
