We'll sue Thomas, say angry Toulouse

Wales captain Gareth Thomas is facing legal action from Toulouse, who claim he went on tour against their wishes.

Toulouse president Rene Bouscatel wants to sue him for breach of contract after branding the Wales star ungrateful'.

Thomas said: "I'm gutted that my time with Toulouse will end like this. I had a great time there and made good friends so I wanted everything to end amicably.

"I still hope it can be sorted out, especially because I don't feel that I've done anything wrong. The rules said I had to come on the tour."

The Welsh Rugby Union have vowed to back Thomas, 32, who is his country's most capped player on tour, winning his 94th in Brisbane.

WRU chief executive Roger Lewis said: "We will always stand by our players. Our understanding is that Gareth is not in breach of any contract. He went on tour with the full backing of the French Federation as it was an IRB sanctioned tour."

But Bouscatel insists Thomas should not have gone on tour with the French title still up for grabs and said: "There will be no deal with someone who is ungrateful. I will have him."

The Wales tour party returns home today without Chris Czekaj, whose World Cup dream is over after he broke his left leg in several places.

The 21-year-old Cardiff wing underwent surgery at the weekend and is likely to spend the next two weeks in a Brisbane hospital. He will be out of action for up to a year.

Wales had been forced to make drastic changes to their front row after losing Adam Jones before kick-off.

They held the Wallabies to 6-0 at half-time but master scrum half George Gregan came off the bench to inspire tries from Digby Ioane, Drew Mitchell and Julian Huxley.
