A spokesman for the Ospreys rugby region said the 30-year-old has made a statement to police following a complaint from the wine bar but denied he was involved in any "form of physical confrontation".
"Shane Williams visited a drinking venue in Ammanford on Saturday evening with friends after attending a charity dinner," said the spokesman.
"In an attempt to accelerate the group's exit at closing time, a great deal of jostling appears to have occurred which is of serious concern given the fact that Shane has only just had operations on both arms and remains in a fragile state.
"Following a complaint made by the venue, Shane and other members present have made statements about the events of that evening to the authorities.
"Shane is not understood to have been involved in any form of physical confrontation."
A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "Police attended a wine bar in High Street, Ammanford, at around 2.50am on the morning of Sunday, July 10 following reports of an ongoing incident.
"Two males were arrested on suspicion of assault and released on bail pending further inquiries."
Teresa Stephens, owner of Rumours Wine Bar, in Ammanford, confirmed an incident occurred at her premises in the early hours of Sunday morning. She said that, as a result, police officers were called to the wine bar.
"Shane Williams and his brother Dean, along with a group of between five and seven guys and their partners, tried to come in here on their way home," she told the South Wales Evening Post, in Swansea.
